Graduate Studies in Organic and Sustainable Crop Production

Graduate

Organic Production Concentration:

The Department of Plant Sciences offers an M.S. degree in Plant Sciences and offers a Ph.D. degree in collaboration with the soil science faculty in the Dept. of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science and Entomology and Plant Pathology faculty. Graduate programs are research-based and prepare students for careers in research, education, extension, and scholarly careers. The M.S. degree is generally a two-year thesis program in which the student learns how to conduct scientific studies and prepare research manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. The Ph.D. program usually takes three to four years for students already holding a M.S. degree and requires original research and development of new knowledge through research studies. Coursework for graduate studies is developed by students in consultation with their major advisor and graduate committee to provide students the needed academic foundation for research studies and career development.

Most students are funded through faculty research grants which provide a graduate student stipend and tuition waiver. If you are interested in pursuing graduate studies in organic and sustainable crop production, please contact faculty working in areas in which you are interested to determine the potential for assistantship funding.
